This policy covers titanwire.ca and the TitanWire apps for iOS and Android (together, "TitanWire," "we," "us"). It explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Information you provide
If you submit a story tip or report a data issue, we collect whatever you include in that submission — for example, your email address if you choose to give one, or a description of the problem. We don't require an account to use TitanWire on the web or in the apps.
Automatically collected — website
Like most websites, titanwire.ca collects standard analytics through Umami: pages viewed, approximate location from IP address, and general device/browser information. This is aggregated and not tied to your name or any account.
Automatically collected — apps
If you choose "Use Current Location" in the app, we access your device's GPS location at that moment, solely to show weather for where you are. We don't collect or store your location in the background, and you can revoke this permission anytime in your device's settings.
If you enable notifications, your device is assigned a push token — a random identifier used only to deliver alerts to that device. It isn't linked to your name, email, or any account, because there is no account system.
How we use this information
We use the information above to operate TitanWire: showing you weather for your chosen location, delivering severe weather alerts you've opted into, understanding how the site is used so we can improve it, and following up on tips or issue reports you send us.
We do not sell your personal information.
Third-party services
TitanWire relies on a small number of third parties to operate:
- Umami — website usage analytics, self-hosted by TitanReach Media (our parent company) on our own servers, located in Canada and Germany
- Mapbox — turns a searched city name into map coordinates
- Apple and Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) — deliver push notifications to iOS and Android devices
- GridCast — our custom weather model, maintained by the team at Acrtara Labs on behalf of TitanReach Media
Each of these only receives the minimum information needed to perform its function — for example, Mapbox receives the text you search for, not your identity.
Location data
Location access in the app is entirely optional and used only in the moment you request it — to show current weather for where you are. You can search for any city manually instead, and you can turn off location access at any time in your device's system settings without losing access to the rest of the app.
Push notifications
Notifications are opt-in. You can disable them anytime in your device's notification settings. Disabling notifications doesn't affect any other part of the app.
Children's privacy
TitanWire is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Your choices
You can use TitanWire's website and core weather features without providing any personal information. You can decline location access, disable push notifications, and use your browser's or device's own privacy controls (including any "Do Not Track" or ad-tracking settings) at any time.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as TitanWire changes. We'll update the date above when we do.
